In the valley of the many colored grass Eleanora She and I imprisoned by Bending trees, asphodils, buttercups and violets In the valley of the many colored grass Young love Eleanora Smooth skin Eleanora Sweet voice Eleanora Died young Eleanora Curse me Eleanora I won’t leave Our valley of the many Colored grass Before she slipped away her spirit She promised me in death she’d visit On the wind she’d touch my lips And then she died and here I sit In the valley of the many colored grass Eleanora The city beats The bent trees creek The flowers fade And I cannot stay In the valley of the many colored grass I met another Eleanora And I love her Eleanora Grit and grunge Eleanora Not young Eleanora Not smooth Not sweet Curse me Eleanora I left Our valley of the many colored grass The earth beneath me shakes My body embraced All I hear upon the wind All is fair Your love can win Can win Can win

Not long ago Not long ago Fish floated on the water Like sudsy soap And the folks flew by Like the fetid water didn’t Who’s needing of a new way to go? Da da da da Da da da da Da da da da Who’s needing of a new way to go? Cuz if you don’t know what it is Then now you know It’s what it is Cuz if you don’t know what it is Then now you know It’s what it is Cuz there were matters at hand Man to man An ostrich with its head in the sand And the folks flew by Like the fetid water didn’t Who’s needing of a new way to go Da da da da Da da da da Da da da da Who’s needing of a new way to go? Cuz if you don’t know what it is Then now you know It’s what it is Cuz if you don’t know what it is Then now you know It’s what it is Not much has changed Not much has changed Fish floating on the water Just all the same But the folks fell still Like the fetid water did Guess it just is what it is… Da da da da Da da da da Da da da da Who’s needing of a new way to go? Cuz if you don’t know what it is Then now you know It’s what it is What it is Cuz if you don’t know what it is Then now you know It’s what it is What it is What it is

Witching Hour What flies in light Shuffles below Witching Hour What sing so bright now Sounds long and low Cold inside that little room Hangs in the air Floats above worn photos in frames I light a candle What fights its flame? Witching Hour What flies in light Now crawls below Witching hour What grows in light Now hangs limp and low Here is where what’s come to rest A heart kept in a room possessed Near is far and far feels here That little room Cold chokes the air Witching Hour What flies in light Shuffles below Witching hour What twirls upright Now sways to and fro Cold inside that little room Hangs in the air Floats above worn photos in frames I light a candle Whisper your name

about

A first EP that goes inside and under personal experiences of coming into middle adulthood and parenthood at this time in the United States--these experiences being Trump’s election, continued environmental crises due to global warming, continued murdering of black men, and the conflicted optimism of bringing a child into this world during all of it. Each song takes varying attitudes about these experiences- irreverence, respect, acceptance, and honesty-to name a few.
